Welcome to the...social?

Whoa, Nelly! Does this mean I am finally cool? I opened the box to my new Zune player the other day and the words "Welcome to the social," colored to a picture that looks like a certain gathering for cool people, took me by surprise. My first thoughts were..."Is this foreign?" Welcome to the...social? Is this a grammar mistake seen often in foreign countries when they try to translate to English? (No offense...I'm Asian and my grammar is far from perfect)
Not too long ago I read this article on how they took down a billboard in Beijing, China, that apparently had a grammar mistake. In preparations for the Olympics, they had to make everything top notched and definitely don't want to be embarrassed by some 20 x 40ft odd billboard sign, suspended several 100 ft in the sky. Little humorous. Kind of like the times where you're having a special guest over and you make sure every little speck of dust in your room is gone...even if the chances of them actually coming in your room is slim to none. Puahah...oh the things we do to impress others.  The things we do to become "cool" and accepted by our peers...i.e. going into "the social."
I'm naturally a boring person, not what you'd call "cool." I just happened to have gotten this Zune player from my dad because there was a $150 mail-in-rebate...making it roughly a $100. A pretty cheap price for coolness, wouldn't you say? And I didn't have to pay a penny. (Bless my father) All my items and clothes are either gifts or hand-me-downs. And after all these years, I've finally received a confirmation letter practically saying "You are now...cool." Welcome to the social, baby~  Will this item finally give me friends? Will it finally get me invited to the hottest parties? Will it finally help me win the heart of the one I truly admire?

Tune in next time...as Peter puts his coolness to the test! Will the luscious Zune player's magic work? Will the girl of his dreams finally accept his feelings? Next time, on "Peter's Perplexing Plunges: Xanga Edition"! Dun dun dun...

Galveston, land of chocolate water!

So I just came back from Galveston Sunday night. Worth the money? Mmm...I can say it was fun. Started off the trip by catching some clams. I caught a total of 34 clams (yes, I kept count) and man, they were huge. Too bad we lost to Nhat, Quy, and Johnny. I only ate 1 of those clams but you know, the fun was in catching them. Then there was that chicken leg crabbing. I was on a roll for a second! After having no luck at all, and then losing my first chicken due to...I don't know, sweaty palms? but yea...I kind of just watched little Johnny try to catch some. Then he caught 1 and I was like...you know, I CAN DO BETTER! So I made myself a new one and BAM, caught me a good 11 crabs. (yea, I counted those too) And let's see the next day...Mimi and I finished this 500 piece puzzle! Man, that's an accomplishment, I tell you. Then just the usual swim/walk on the beach. Played some soccer. I scored 2 goals! My numbers are piling up on this trip huh? Yep, and my team won this one. Hawaiian barbeque was fun. So were the after-festives, though a little scary. I've never been "blown" on the cheek so many times in my life! Then came Sunday, the day we left. Ah, sad to go home but everything must come to an end. What stroke me as amazing was when Chi Tuyet (my superior and ruler of this little group we call TNTT Emmanuel) fainted from pain maybe? I mean, it was a terrible accident and everything but you know...I wasn't alone at that time. I sat out, took 2 minutes, and prayed for Chi Tuyet right on the spot. 2 seconds later, of all people...little Johnny came and told me he'd just finish praying and I should as well. He was the least person I expected this from. It reminded me of the innocence still living in some youths these days. I've talked to kids these days and you...you can say they aren't as pretty on the inside. I hope my friend Johnny doesn't become tainted by society like some of the kids I've met. But yea...the trip was fun. I'd do it again. Just got to remember...never leave ketchup lying across your chest. You never know when hungry tongues will attack you. :D

Wingardium Leviosa

So the 7th and final book of Harry Potter came out today and I had no idea at all. I knew it came out some time this month but I was thinking more of next week. My cousin from New Orleans came down for a visit for the past 7 days, and just left this morning. It was rather sad. She said she was leaving tomorrow morning but when her dad came in my room asking where she was at 9 in the morning...I thought "shoot, she's leaving..." Now I must once again become accustomed to this lonely and boring life at home. I've had at least 1 relative stay at my house for roughly a month and a half. Even if it was only the one called "Baby James" who would only just sit in my room and play video games while giving me time to myself, it was still a nice feeling just having some company. In fact, I had to go into the deep, dark depths of my parent's room just to peacefully finish reading the 5th book before the movie came. But now...everyone's gone. Just the regular ol'e family. I was bored to death. What shall I do with my time?
Well...I just happened to remember the 7th book was coming out soon! I should probably go read the 6th book before the 7th book comes out huh? Yeeaaa...good way to spend my time. So it was time for work and decided I will go buy the 6th book at Barnes and Noble after work. Unbeknownst to this day being the actual day the 7th book was coming out, I drove down the crowded lanes of Firewheel Mall, thinking "Oh boy, there sure are alot of people out tonight...Must be the kids watching a Friday night movie premier!" As I turned in front Barnes and Noble there was this HUGE line going about 3 stores length outside of the bookstore. It surprised me so much, I did half a U-turn thinking I was being invaded by the mob of 100 people. (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWZgUGsLuFk ) Before I could finish this U-turn, I saw this cute little kid wearing a Gryffindor cape. I only then realized "OH! TODAY is the day the 7th book came out!" Man, I felt a little stupid. Oh well, I shall get this 6th book soon and finish it as quickly as I can so I can start this final book of the only series I actually willfully read.
And yes...thanks for all the spoilers guys. It comes much appreciated. (akjwehfashfaejfnkav...HE DIES!?!?)

I woke up this morning at 7:30 am to go to mass at St. Marc's. Today was my saint's celebrated day. But man...if you know me, I'm super lazy and sleep until around 2pm. And you know...it actually felt nice waking up that early. Just this past Sunday I woke up at 7am to go to church at 7:30 in the morning and carry that thingamabob and was so surprised. The cool morning air...peaceful drive with maybe 1 or 2 other cars on the road...it was nice. Today's drive wasn't very fun. I haven't driven in the passenger seat in a LONG time. I'm usually the one driving, and I really don't mind it that way at all. But I swear...my mom passed EVERY SINGLE stop sign there was. She just drove on by like there wasn't any thing there. Funny in a way but scary. And then the whole feel on the passenger side is so different. I feel like the car next to me was going to crash into me and destroy me. Maybe because I was half asleep, but still. Never knew my mom drove like this. But hey...do we all drive like this? Do I drive like this? I don't really know, cause I rarely drive as a passenger but it would be interesting. I get mixed results some times. Some people are terrified, some people commend my driving. My cousin does this weird number going "AHHUAH GAH YOW!" with random hand movements every time I make a turn. I wonder how it feels to be my own passenger...

Centrifugal Motion on Peter's Every Day Life Makes Good Pie

My mother babysit's this lovely child named Minori. Yea...she's the coolest thing ever. She's half Japanese and half Vietnamese. Her full name is Minori Kikuchi! Talk about a cool sounding name! But yea...she was riding on this little car thingymabob that you can move around without any electricity power or anything. You just turn the wheel back and forth and I'm guessing the forces acting upon the wheel's motion collide and ultimately push the car forward. But it doesn't go very far. The easiest way to move the car is to use some good ol'e hard labor with your feet. Place your feet on the ground and push forward. It can travel up to 20 times farther on the first push!  It doesn't take much brains to do it as well! You have to keep this constant rhythm when using the turning method. But you know, it picks up speed and in the end, and could travel at a faster speed then using your feet on the ground. How interesting is that! It reminds me of that penny question you're asked when in kindergarten. Would you take a penny the first day, 2 pennies the 2nd, 4 pennies the 3rd, 8 pennies the 4th, 16 pennies the 5th...and so on, doubling every day for 100 days, or would you take a $1 every day for 100 days? When you're young, you think...PUAHAHA OF COURSE I'D TAKE THE $1 A DAY! EVERYONE KNOWS $1 IS MORE THAN A PENNY! but in reality...if you chouse the $1, you get $100 total when the doubling penny get's you 633825300114114700748351602688 pennies! If you think about it...using your feet to push will initially get you more power and distance but eventually it will depretiate due to fatigue. The turning method takes much less energy and the longer you keep it going, the faster it goes. Keeping it long enough...it could go so much more faster than using your feet. Life lesson anyone? If you slowly put out hard work and preservation to a simple task that will reap you loads of benefits in the future (like the turning method and doubling penny choice), should you take it? Or do you give up and take the easy way out that's limited and depreciates (the feet method and $1 a day choice)? You can say I've been through this many times but haven't learned a thing. I'm a wimp. I work so hard for a certain goal and end giving up when an easier way out arises. In the end, the goal I worked so hard for is lost and the easy way out ends up hurting me. I only hope no one else falls into this obliviating abyss of a trap. I tried explaining this to dear Minori. I hope she won't grow up to be a loser like me. However, I don't think she got my message. She could only go "gah gah goo goo" and point to the seat behind her, hoping i'll get on and push her around using the feet method.
